Legendary South African batter AB de Villiers is optimistic about South Africa winning the third World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia, starting on June 11 to 15. The African side went into the finale clash as the underdogs after their dramatic entry to the finals, which saw them winning seven games on the bounce against West Indies, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. On the other hand, favorites Australia had the easier route as they won a series against India, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand and drew the Ashes with England.
Australia is also the defending champions and enters another ICC finals as inevitable favorites. However, De Villiers believes the Proteas are brimming with confidence and have a bunch of players who can be X-factors in the WTC Final.

“This is a massive moment for South African cricket—a final at Lord's. The entire nation will be behind our team, and hopefully, we can cross the line,” AB de Villiers told Star Sports ahead of the final.
“I'm excited for the challenge. It's a well-balanced side, and I'm quietly confident we can upset Australia. I say 'upset' because they're the favorites for this ICC World Test Championship Final,” he added.
AB says South Africa players have a point to prove in the WTC Final against Australia
While De Villiers warned South Africa to be wary of Australia's match-winning skills in the finals, he also touched upon the Proteas players wanting to prove a point on the big stage against a side, that is known not to faze much by big moments.

“Australia is a very experienced, well-oiled machine of a team. It won't be easy for South Africa. But I'm quietly confident because we're going there with many in-form players and big-hearted guys who have something to prove on this stage," AB said while speaking to Star Sports about the WTC Final.
“For many of these players, it'll be their first match at Lord's—hopefully, they'll settle quickly. But I'm really looking forward to this contest. It's going to be fantastic cricket—after all, it's a final, and both teams have earned their place here.”
