Cricketer-turned-expert Sanjay Bangar stated that neither India's new Test captain Shubman Gill, nor Karun Nair should bat at the number three position during India's five-match Test series starting on June 20. The former Team India batting coach believes Gill could play at number four, a position Virat Kohli used to play for India in Tests.
For the number three position, Bangar suggested either Sai Sudarshan or Abhimanyu Easwaran. The latter also scored a half-century for India A against England Lions at the number three position.
"I think none of them in my book (Gill or Karun at No. 3?). If at all Karun is playing, he would bat slightly lower down the order. All indications are that Shubman Gill may bat at No. 4., so the toss-up at No. 3 is going to be between Sai Sudharsan and Abhimanyu Easwaran. Easwaran also got a good score in one of the practice matches they played," Bangar was quoted as saying by India Today.
Karun Nair should bat number six: Sanjay Bangar
The expert further went on to state that Nair should bat lower down the order, preferably at number six behind wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant.
"I don’t think there is going to be any difference there. One of those two will play at No. 3. No. 4 will be Shubman Gill, No. 5 will be Rishabh Pant and No. 6 would be Karun Nair. That’s my understanding of the situation," said Bangar.
