IPL 2025 - PBKS vs RCB: Virar Kohli’s Unbeaten Fifty Drives Bengaluru to Easy Win Against Punjab

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won the 37th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) against Punjab Kings (PBKS) by seven wickets at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on April 20.

Chasing 158 runs, RCB were in control throughout the innings with Virat Kohli (73* runs off 54 balls) playing the role of an anchor, scoring a measured half-century to see his side through the victory.

Bengaluru lost an early wicket. PBKS were off to a promising start with the ball as Arshdeep Singh provided them a breakthrough in the first over. Phil Salt (1 run off 3 balls) edged the ball on a pull shot straight to the gloves of the PBKS wicket-keeper, Josh Inglis.

Though RCB were rocked by an early blow, they did not panic. Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal (61 runs off 35 balls) formed a 103-run stand for the second wicket, almost ensuring a massive win for RCB.

While Kohli took the safe route, focusing more on strike-rotation, Padikkal played against his natural style of batting, and was at his aggressive best. The southpaw brought up his fifty in just 30 balls in the 11th over.

After smashing Marcus Stoinis for a six and a four in the 12th over, Padikkal wanted to maintain the momentum in the following over off Harpreet Brar but perished while doing so.

It was up to Kohli to finish off the chase for RCB along with Rajat Patidar (12 runs off 13 balls). Kohli completed his half-century in 43 deliveries with a single in the 15th over.

In the next over, Punjab Kings missed an easy run-out chance that would have dismissed Patidar, but just like the rest of the innings, they failed to capitalise on the opportunities.

RCB needed 26 runs in four overs. Kohli smashed a six and a four off Yuzvendra Chahal to get over the line as quickly as possible. Patidar also tried to do the same but holed out at long-on.

Jitesh Sharma (11 runs off 8 balls) ended the game with a six as RCB won the match in 18.5 overs with seven wickets remaining. Kohli remained unbeaten at 73 runs off 54 balls.

With this victory, RCB moved to third place on the IPL 2025 points table, while PBKS dropped to fourth spot.
