Shubman Gill leads GT

Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar led the Gujarat Titans to a comfortable victory, handing Sunrisers Hyderabad their fourth consecutive defeat in the tournament.

Shubman Gill took charge of the chase, scoring his first half-century of the season in just 35 balls, with seven boundaries to his name. Meanwhile, Washington Sundar reached his highest IPL score of 49 runs off 29 balls before being dismissed by Mohammed Shami, just one run shy of his maiden fifty. His impressive innings allowed Gill to settle in, as they both showcased their skills on a sluggish pitch.

Sherfane Rutherford came in as an impact substitute and immediately made an impression, attacking the bowlers with a series of boundaries. With Shubman Gill watching from the other end, Rutherford helped lower the required run-rate to five. Gill then joined the action, contributing two more boundaries, and together they completed the chase in style, securing Gujarat Titans’ third consecutive victory of the season.

After the match, there were handshakes all around as the Gujarat Titans celebrated. Their captain, Shubman Gill, anchored the chase with his unbeaten score of 61 runs off 43 balls, allowing his teammates to flourish. The Titans were clinical in their second away game of the season.

On the other hand, the Sunrisers Hyderabad faced another setback, marking their fourth consecutive loss leading them to the bottom of the points table. This was not the performance expected from their star-studded lineup, prompting them to head back to the drawing board in hopes of making a comeback soon. Pat Cummins noted that the pitch was tricky and challenging, and the dew made the chase easier than anticipated.

"Was a bit skinny, but the Hyderabad wicket is a bit tough. A few early wickets and you are in the game. It didn't spin much, there was a little dew around, but they batted really well. Their pace bowling was tough to play against today"

Shubman Gill expressed pride in his team and highlighted his bowlers as game changers. He praised Mohammed Siraj and spoke highly of Washington Sundar’s inclusion and impact in the match, while also acknowledging the team’s good fielding performance.

"Bowlers are game-changers especially in this format, lot of people talk about big-hitters but bowlers win you games. We wanted to play shots all along the ground, that was the chat between me and Washington Sundar. The energy he (Mohammed Siraj) brings during bowling and fielding is infectious he added"

Mohammed Siraj was awarded the Player of the Match for his outstanding figures of 4 wickets for 17 runs, marking his second consecutive strong performance for the franchise. With seven wickets in his last two matches, he has become a significant concern for opposing teams. Overall, it was a well-rounded victory for the Gujarat Titans, as they defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets at Uppal Stadium.
